Cat Amongst the Pigeons Unlike the webmaster, I have no problem with the basic concept of an increasing bird population endangering the food chain and, ultimately, mankind. It is not nearly so preposterous as other Avengers ideas such as man-eating plants. The tribute to Hitchcock is most appropriate. The English director loved to combine mystery and suspense with eccentricity, style and humour, the basic ingredients for every successful Avengers episode. "Cat Among the Pigeons" has a real flavour of the Rigg era: a memorable villain; a menacing atmosphere, the stuffed birds in the ecologist's office reminiscent of the puppets in "The £50,000 Breakfast" and the Amazonian rainforest in Southern England recalling "Small Game for Big Hunters." A most enjoyable episode with one of the best Avengers props of all time: the deadly mastermind's resplendent feather chair. |
