Episode 8: The New Avengers |

"There's a double for everyone," according to
Cathy Gale in "Man With Two Shadows." The Mission for the Distressed and Needy has a
bumper crop of such doubles, intended to replace high-ranking government officials and secret agents. Soon there
are look-alikes arriving for Gambit and Purdey, who set about revealing the
masterminds behind the operation before Steed's new double can do his dirty work!
It's been done before—several times, already!—but this one
is saved from the "been there, done that" waste bin by a number of clever plot
twists and some of the best Purdey-Gambit "intercourse" of the series ("or should I call you 'Lo'?"). Shame about
that accent, though, Gareth...
The swimming pool that appears in this episode is also the one in which Mother was seen
floating about in "All Done with Mirrors."
Posing as Lolita posing as herself, Purdey must get to know
"Gambit," earning her several tweaks on the butt in the process.
Gambit meets with Steed on a shooting range bearing a pump-style shotgun which fails to meet with Steed's approval—not a "gentleman's" gun. But Steed assures, "I'm not annoyed with you, Gambit. After all, you can't help your background." |
