Obsession
By Rodney Marshall

Despite belonging to the notorious 1977 "13," I think this is an excellent episode, albeit one lacking humour. Purdey is centre stage as her professional loyalties—a recurring theme in the series—are tested to the full by the re-emergence of her ex-lover, well played by Martin Shaw. There are some excellent action sequences, an area in which the series wholeheartedly succeeded, culminating in the rocket's flying debris. There is also a well-acted emotional confrontation after Gambit kills Purdey's  "ex."

Criticism of the 70s music always strikes me as bizarre. This, after all, was the mid-1970s and the music is understandably influenced by the cultural context in which the series was made. None of the twanging guitar music is as moronic as the sixties score for "Dead Man's Treasure."
