Steed studies student suicides
Venus sings sordid songs* |

Production completed: 9 February 1963
UK Premiere (London, Season 2): 10 February 1963
US Premiere (A&E cable): ca. 22 February 1991
When a university experiences a
rash of student suicides, Steed is on hand to determine why. But the more he digs, the
more the suicides look like murders, and he eventually uncovers an insalubrious political
organization that blackmails students as a means to recruit them.
I do wish I could give this one a better score, but it simply
fails to maintain my attention. There are a couple of nice twists toward the end, but they
don't make up for some long yawns in between. At least Venus Smith is more tolerable than
usual.
Videotaping took place at 6:30 PM on 9 February and the episode made its debut at 10:05 PM the same night on
ABC and affiliates, although the ATV London transmission was Sunday 10 February.
