Episode 114: Emma Peel Era |

Production completed: 14 February 1967 A man survives what appears to be a lethal auto accident—and keeps coming back for more! When our duo begins investigating the man who would not die, the trail leads to the Neoteric Research Unit, a top-secret (naturally) government facility where "radios are strictly prohibited." There, Steed meets the facility's director, Professor Stone—the man who would not die! The facility has been working on creating "duplicates," robots that look exactly like people. Professor Stone had elected to make the first duplicate in his own likeness. Trouble is, which is which?
While it is yet another variation of the androids-taking-over-the-country theme with strong hints of "The Cybernauts" (thus the loss of a half-bowler), anything with Christopher Lee is definitely worth your time! Cute lines and visual gags abound, Mr. Lee plays Professor Frank N. Stone (geddit?) as straight as an arrow, and Steed vs. Stone in the cottage is one of the more gripping fights of the season.
Did you notice what Emma was watching on television during the teaser? It was a snippet from "The Cybernauts!" Acronym Alert: MOT-NRU is the Ministry of Technology, Neoteric Research Unit.
Haberdasher Aske's School, Elstree, doubles as the hospital—see On Location for a recent view.
In an attempt by the duplicate Stone to destroy a model boat enthusiast's transmitter, he gets caught up in the radio beam and meanders around a field in the same manner as the model boat in the water. A priceless classic!
Doctor: "He'd been attacked." Steed: "By a banana?"
